Coach Quique Sanchez Flores expressed his relief after Valencia twice came from behind to claim a 2-2 draw at Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Liga outfit twice trailed on Tuesday, but goals from Fernando Morientes and Roberto Ayala secured the Che's progression to the knock-out stage of the UEFA Champions League.
Flores admitted the side struggled in the opening 45 minutes of the Group D encounter before getting their act together after the interval.
"We suffered a great deal in the first half, but we were able to put things right in the second," said Flores.
"We made some important tactical errors, but the effort was always good. It was a really tough game."
Meanwhile, experienced defender Ayala is hoping Valencia learn from their lessons in order to claim top spot in Group D.
"I hope the experience of this draw will help us take a look at ourselves and become a better side," informed Ayala.
"We are now through, but we want to finish first and to do that we need to beat Olympiakos."
