Valencia defender Asier Del Horno looks set for surgery to cure his long-standing Achilles injury.
The left-back damaged the Achilles tendon in his left ankle prior to the World Cup and was forced out of Spain's squad for the showpiece in Germany.
Despite the problem he sealed a move to Valencia from Chelsea last summer and was hopeful the injury would not keep him out for an extended period.
However, he has still to make his debut for his new employers and Valencia's medical staff now admit surgery is the most likely outcome - although a date has yet to be confirmed.
"We're going to wait two or three weeks," Che doctor Antonio Giner told El Pais.
"The sheath of his Achilles tendon isn't working, and if it continues like this we'll have to operate."
