Brazilian midfielder Edu is hoping to help Valencia claim Spanish and European glory this season.

Edu was laid low with a serious knee injury last term, but has played a key role in Valencia's superb start to the new campaign.

They have notched up two wins out of two in the UEFA Champions League and are also unbeaten domestically, but Edu accepts there is still a lot of hard work to do.

"Valencia are functioning perfectly but the season is very long," he remarked.

"After the injury my main objective is to succeed in Valencia and perform to my maximum for the team.

"I feel that the fans are with me and that is important."

Barcelona, who held Valencia to a 1-1 draw last month, are favourites to conquer Europe and Spain, but Edu believes his side can compete on both fronts.

"I want to win La Liga and the Champions League," he declared.

"It will be complicated but I am optimistic.

"Our rivals respect us because we are a strong team. This was demonstrated against Barcelona."
