Valencia's fit-again midfielder Edu has set his sights on claiming the Liga title this season.

The former Arsenal star is determined to make up for lost time after being laid low with a serious knee injury last term, and has now outlined his side's lofty objectives.

The Che finished last season in third place, behind Real Madrid and champions Barcelona, but the Brazilian international has backed Quique Sanchez Flores's side to upset the existing order come next May.

"This Valencia side is ready to compete for La Liga," said Edu.

"I have always been a winner and I want a title this season."

Edu also revealed that, despite his injury setback, he became accustomed to life at the east coast club more quickly than he had at Arsenal - a club at which he spent four seasons before departing for Spanish shores last summer.

"My adaptation was easy because Spain and Brazil are similar and my family are very happy in Valencia," he added.

"London was more difficult in that respect - Londoners tend to be more cold people, whereas the Latin people are more open and talkative.

"During my stay at Arsenal, all the Spaniards there spoke favourably of Valencia and they were all right.

"After my injury last season I now want to return to my best form.

"My objective is simply to play again and I will leave it up to the coach to decide my role."
