Malaga are understood to be lining up a loan move for Valencia midfielder Mario Regueiro when the transfer window reopens in January.

The Uruguayan joined Valencia from Racing Santander last summer on a free transfer but has failed to make an impact at the Mestalla.

He has failed to convince new Che chief Quique Flores of his worth and has spent most of the season kicking his heels on the touchline having made just two substitute appearances.

Despite his predicament, it is thought the player is keen to stay and fight for his place at Valencia meaning that Malaga face an uphill battle to land the 27-year-old.

An attack-minded player, the left-sided star made his name at Racing with his set-piece prowess and ability to score from range.

Relations between Malaga and Valencia are excellent which could help smooth the transfer, but if Regueiro ultimately vetoes any switch Malaga are also known to be scouring the Brazilian market and are to send director of sport Manuel Ruiz Hierro to South America next week to set up several deals with January in mind.
