Valencia winger Vicente is to decide this week whether to undergo surgery to cure his persistent ankle problem.

The Spain international has been hampered by the injury which he originally sustained in a UEFA Champions league game against Werder Bremen in late September.

It was first thought that complete rest would cure the complaint, but the 23-year-old is still being troubled by pain in his left ankle.

After spending a lengthy spell on the sidelines recovering, he played the recent games against Werder Bremen, Numancia and Barcelona, but missed the Che's last game - a 3-0 win over Espanyol - because of the injury.

Vicente met boss Claudio Ranieri last week to decide on the best course of action, and is now seriously considering going under the knife to try and resolve the problem once and for all.

Valencia's medical staff believe that he would be out of action for a minimum of two months if he did have surgery, so the player is weighing up all possible solutions before committing himself to an operation.
