VALENCIA are close to sealing a double transfer swoop, with Darko Kovacevic and Rufete on the brink of a switch to the Mestella.

Kovacevic is set to end an unhappy spell with Juventus, whilst Rufete will be join on a player plus cash deal involving Gerald.

The Spanish side have already agreed, in principle, a deal with Juve for the Yugoslavian striker, at a fee of around 3,300 million pesetas (£11.89 million).

Rufete, meanwhile will join with Gerald, who went on loan to Osasuna last season, going in the opposite direction.

The arrival of Kovacevic will probably not be the last of Valencia upgrading their strikeforce, although a second purchase would depend on the sale of Uruguayan Diego Alonso.

Both transfers will see Rafa Benitez start to stamp his authority on the Valencian squad.
