MILAN have switched their attention from Valencia star Gerard to his young team-mate Francisco Javier Farinos - although the Rossinero have every intention of bidding for both Spanish players.

22-year-old Farinos is one of the younger stars of the Valencia side, which was recently defeated in the final of the Champions League by fellow Spanish side Real Madrid.

The central midfielder has been in the first team squad since he was 18 and has played for his country at Under-21 level but would not be willingly sold by his club.

However, the youngster has a clause in his contract that means he will be released for a fee of around £11 million - with Gerard's own release fee being around 15 million.

Although this is a large sum of money, the inflated market and the relatively young age of the two players involved may mean that chief scout and negotiator Ariedo Braida may soon discuss a possible transfer with the Primera Liga club.

There are also suggestions that Milan may use Jose Mari, who was signed late last season but has not been at his best at the San Siro since his move from Atletico Madrid, as a bargaining tool for a potential move back to Spain.
