Real Zaragoza are to take up their option to sign Argentine striker Diego Milito on a permanent basis.

The 27-year-old joined the Primera outfit on a two-year loan from Italian side Genoa in the summer of 2005 and has proved a big hit at La Romareda.

He has bagged 24 goals at a rate of around one in every two games, helping the Aragon-based side establish themselves as one of La Liga's emerging forces over the past couple of seasons.

The Spaniards will now purchase him for an undisclosed amount at the end of the season, a move which has delighted the player who will ink a four-year contract.

"A week ago I met with the president and he told me they were going to use the option to buy me," Milito explained.

"I am very happy and content because my objective was always to stay.

"I have to thank the fans for the way they have treated me - right from the first moment they have showed me great affection and I want to pay them back for that in the next four years."
