Zaragoza clinch double deal

Real Zaragoza have completed the double signing of defenders Juanfran and Sergio.

Real Zaragoza have completed the double signing of defenders Juanfran and Sergio.

Juanfran, a left-back by trade, joins on a free transfer after annulling his contract with Turkish side Besiktas.

The 29-year-old, a former Spanish international, had spells at Valencia and Celta Vigo before agreeing a move to Turkey in 2004.

Last season he had a loan spell at Ajax, with whom he played in the UEFA Champions League, but although the Dutch side wanted to sign him on a permanent deal, he opted for a move back to his native Spain with Zaragoza where he will be reunited with coach Victor Fernandez whom he played under at Celta.

Sergio also moves to La Romareda on a free after coming to the end of his deal at Celta.

The 29-year-old has spent the past seven seasons at Celta but has been plagued by injury problems in that time.

Having agreed a switch to Zaragoza he will now hope his problems are behind him as he is regarded as one of the most consistent defenders in Spanish football when at his best.
