Real Zaragoza captain Luis Cuartero will be out of action for around two months after breaking ribs against Levante.
The 29-year-old full back was forced from the pitch on the hour mark of his side's 4-3 win on Sunday with the injury.
Cuartero sustained the problem after colliding heavily with his own goalkeeper, Luis Garcia.
The news will come as a big blow to Zaragoza boss Victor Munoz for whom the stopper is a vital first-team member.
Argentine Leo Ponzio - who came on for Cuartero against Levante - will fill in at right back while his team-mate battles to regain full fitness.
