Agent refuses to betray trust of Portuguese superstar

Cristiano Ronaldo's agent claims to be fully aware of the reasons for the Portuguese superstar's sadness at Real Madrid but is refusing to give anything away. The forward has reportedly told Bernabeu officials he wants to quit the club amid a flurry of stories which have suggested a meeting took place over the weekend regarding the subject. Ronaldo on Sunday publicly admitted he was unhappy after he had declined to celebrate scoring twice in the win over Granada. The behaviour has led to mass speculation about a bust-up within the Real squad or an apparent desire from the 27-year-old for a new contract. Ronaldo's representative and close friend, Jorge Mendes, is said to have been a part of the meetings with Real but he does not want to betray any trust by exposing details.

Downbeat

"I am aware of the reasons behind Ronaldo's words and it is up to him to disclose them or not," Mendes wrote in a statement on the website of his company, Gestifute. He added: "I am not surprise by them and they cause me no discomfort. Those who know my relationship with Ronaldo know he will always count on my total solidarity." Ronaldo, who last season scored 46 league goals as the title was won, has had a relatively quiet start to the new campaign and also looked below par in Real's opening La Liga draw against Valencia and in their shock 2-1 defeat at Getafe. On Wednesday, he scored the winner against Barcelona in their Spanish Super Cup second leg but was on Sunday pointedly serious and downbeat after netting his goals against Granada.
