Real boss feel vindicated following Higuain heroics

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has hit back at critics who grilled him about missing out on Sergio Aguero following Gonzalo Higuain's rise to prominence. The Santiago Bernabeu tactician is amused about the sudden change of opinion that has seen his striker go from villain to hero after three successive hat-tricks. Aguero was strongly linked with a move from Atletico to Real before he joined Manchester City and Mourinho was criticised last month when Higuain looked to have lost his scoring touch.

"Two weeks ago, after several games without scoring, we could not find the net," Mourinho told a press conference. "Higuain was very bad, so was (Karim) Benzema and everyone said we should have signed Aguero." Higuain has become the fans' choice to lead the Madrid attack, according to a poll in AS, after hat-tricks against Espanyol and Real Betis for Los Merengues and another for Argentina against Chile.
