Real Madrid remain hopeful they can lure Milan ace Kaka to El Santiago Bernabeu.

The Spanish giants have held a long-term interest in the classy playmaker and tried to sign him earlier in the summer.

Milan rejected Real's overtures for Kaka in August and they tied him down to a new long-term contract.

However, Real sporting director Predrag Mijatovic is still optimistic that they can bring Kaka to the Spanish capital.

"We tried to convince Kaka to leave Milan last summer, but we did not finalise an agreement as he wanted to honour his contract with his current club," Mijatovic told AS.

"In any case, we will try again in the future because he is an excellent player and he would be a perfect target for us," added the former Fiorentina striker.

"It will not be an easy operation, but I am confident that in the end everything will fall into place."

Mijatovic also revealed that he hopes that Antonio Cassano will apologise to Fabio Capello.

Cassano's future at Real looks uncertain following a bust-up between the player and Capello.

Mijatovic hopes the matter can be resolved by Cassano apologising to the Italian tactician.

"I really hope he speaks to Capello and apologises for his behaviour because he was disrespectful," added Mijatovic.

"We will wait and see what happens in the next few days, but now everything depends on Cassano."
