Roma defender Philippe Mexes has revealed that Real Madrid were interested in signing him over the summer.
The 24-year-old Frenchman admits that it was nice to be linked with the Spanish giants, but insisted that he was happier than he had ever been at the Stadio Olimpico.
"I am flattered that Real Madrid thought about me," he said.
"But I am at Roma, where I am totally fulfilled and ambitious. We all want to win titles here.
"The atmosphere in the changing room is fantastic. We are all very close, that is our secret.
"We are aiming for a place in the top four and to win the title, why not?
"We have desire, enthusiasm, a coach who knows how to get the best from all of us, and I feel loved and respected here."
Mexes has made a good start to the season with Roma and is hoping that his performances can earn him an international recall.
"I believe I have never been in better form than today," he remarked.
"I hope to be called for the French team to play in the Euro 2008 qualifiers. I can't see how I could play better for my club.
"Deep inside I still believe that one day I will play more regularly in French team.
"There will always be a lot of competition, but I just have faith."
