Real Madrid forward Antonio Cassano has confirmed his intention to try and win a place in Italy's World Cup squad.
The former Roma man scored in Real's 2-1 derby win over Atletico Madrid on Saturday, and hopes he can continue to shine at El Santiago Bernabeu for the rest of the season.
Cassano hopes that Italy coach Marcelo Lippi will be impressed enough to include him in his 23-man squad for the World Cup in Germany.
"I only hope Lippi was watching TV, because maybe it's not too late for me to earn a World Cup place," said Cassano.
"I want to dedicate this match to my team-mates, supporters and former president Florentino Perez who wanted me here."
Lippi is facing a number of selection headaches as he attempts to compile his final squad to take to Germany.
Cassano will hope that more performances for Real like Saturday's will force Lippi to include him in the travelling party.
