Helguera Real close to new deal

Ivan Helguera is close to committing his future to Real Madrid.

Ivan Helguera is close to committing his future to Real Madrid and putting pen-to-paper on a new deal at El Santiago Bernabeu.

The Spain international is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a free transfer exit from the Liga giants next summer.

Helguera has been attracting interest from The Premiership with Manchester United, Newcastle and Liverpool monitoring his situation, while Internazionale are also keen.

However, talks between Real and Helguera are progressing swiftly and an announcement on his future is expected shortly.

The 30-year-old defender is believed to be close to agreeing a three-year deal that also includes bonuses based on results.

Meanwhile, keeper Iker Casillas has attempted to pour cold water on rumours he could leave in the summer, by stating he wants to stay with the club.

The Spain international shot-stopper, like Helguera, is out of contract at the end of the season and rumours have already begun over his future.

However, Casillas' agent Gines Carvajal has stated the 24-year-old is keen to thrash out an extension with the Madrid giants.

"Our desire is to reach an agreement to stay with Real Madrid," stated Carvajal.
