David Beckham says that the time has come for Real Madrid to end their trophy drought, as he prepares for the start of his third season at the Bernabeu.

Since his blockbuster move in 2003 the England captain has endured a frustrating time with the nine-time European Cup winners as they have been unable to find the winning formula and add to the club's considerable trophy cabinet.

After floundering in the wake of Valencia and Barcelona in successive Primera Liga seasons, and failing to replicate the European heroics of the past, Los Merengues are desperate to satisfy their fans' lust for glory in the coming campaign.

Beckham has now insisted that Wanderley Luxemburgo's side would be doing their utmost to reverse the damaging trend in every competition they are involved in.

"Of course we must try to win trophies," Beckham told the club's official website.

"We have been trying to do that for two years and have not managed to do so.

"I want to win because we can not have another season without winning a competition.

"We are Real Madrid and every year we have the same necessity - to win.

"All competitions are important and we will try to perform well in all of them."

Real have brought in Uruguayan duo Pablo Garcia and Carlos Diogo as they look to reshape the squad, and Beckham is confident that the arrivals from Osasuna and River Plate will bed in well at the Bernabeu.

"They are good players and although we have not yet had the time to get to know them I am sure they will produce the football they are capable of," the England skipper insisted.
