Inter land Brazilian keeper

Inter have snapped up Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar Soares from Chievo.

Internazionale have continued their activity in the transfer market by snapping up Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar Soares from Chievo.

The South American has penned a three deal at Giuseppe Meazza and becomes the club's second signing in two days following the capture of Argentine winger Santiago Solari from Real Madrid.

Inter had wanted to bring in the custodian in January but did not have any spaces in their squad for non-EU players, so agreed to help Chievo complete a deal for the 25-year-old on the understanding they would have first option on him.

They have now freed up a place for the player and have thus used their option to seal a move.

It seems their spending will not stop there as coach Roberto Mancini is keen to bring in at least one new defender.

Real's Walter Samuel is a known target but negotiations with the Spaniards appear to have hit an impasse and the latest name to be mentioned in dispatches is Roma's Cristian Chivu.

However, Inter president Massimo Moratti has played down talk of the Romanian joining.

"We are missing a defender," he stated.

"Anyway, if we have to sign a defender there is time until August.

"Chivu? Roma consider him not on sale."
