Primera minnows Getafe were lining up an audacious bid for Robinho.
Primera strugglers Getafe have admitted they were hoping to pull of a transfer coup by bringing in Robinho during the transfer window.The Madrid-based minnows have confirmed that they hoped to take the Brazilian starlet on loan from neighbours Real Madrid.
If Robinho had moved to the Santiago Bernabeu in January, he would not have been able to play as Real already have three non-EU players on their books - Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo and Walter Samuel - and Getafe were hoping Los Merengues would consent to a six-month loan deal to enable him to gain regular Primera action.
However, now that the player's move to Real from Santos looks likely to take place in the summer, their hopes have been dashed, but Getafe president Angel Torres insists it was a serious proposal.
"I spoke to (Real director of sport, Emilio) Butragueno and told him that if he (Robinho) did come, he could play at Getafe," stated Torres.
"He could not have played at Real, but he wanted to leave Brazil.
"Therefore, it would have been a good option to play in this team where Madrid would have had him close at hand."
Meanwhile, Getafe have also revealed that they have agreed contract extensions with both Nano and Diego Rivas that will keep the players at the club until June 2008.
