Real Madrid are set to open talks with Iker Casillas over a contract that would tie the goalkeeper to the club until 2010.

Casillas, undisputed first choice for both club and country, is currently under contract at the Santiago Bernabeu until June, 2006.

Real president Florentino Perez is keen to tie up the player's future with the 23-year-old now having entered the final two years of his contract.

Casillas has expressed his desire to stay with Real, and Los Merengues will sit down with the player and his agent Gines Carvajal in the near future.

"I have not spoken with the club about my (contract) renewal, but I would happily do it," he stated.

"If the club is happy with me I suppose that they will tell me they want me to stay.

"If the club does want me to stay, I would be delighted.

"I have been here eight years, and why would I want to leave?"
