Samuel stays optimistic

Walter Samuel remains confident that Real Madrid can turn their season around.

Walter Samuel remains confident that the current Real Madrid team can enjoy a successful season despite their poor start.

The Argentine defender, who joined from Roma during the summer, was sent off in Saturday's 1-0 away reverse at Espanyol.

That defeat prompted further criticism of a side under fire for their 3-0 UEFA Champions League humbling at Bayer Leverkusen.

Real boss Jose Antonio Camacho tendered his resignation following the Espanyol game, and could quit the club on Monday following a meeting with president Florentino Perez.

However, despite all the unrest, Samuel believes the capital club can turn around their fortunes in the coming weeks.

"The results will come," he insisted. "I believe things will turn out well.

"These are difficult moments, but the key is to remain together and pull in the same direction.

"Espanyol did not outplay us, and we were unfortunate to miss the penalty. In the second half we had more of the ball than they did.

"I was sent off for a challenge in which I did nothing. The worst thing is knowing that I won't be able to play against Osasuna on Tuesday.

"However, it's in the difficult times when you want to play even more and show your courage."
