It is no secret that Real are in the market for a central defender, and the reigning European champions have long been linked with a swoop for Ajax's highly-rated Romanian stopper Cristian Chivu.
Real have no experienced back-up for first-choice central pairing Fernando Hierro and Ivan Helguera, although youth products Francisco Pavon and Ruben have both impressed when handed the opportunity in recent times.
However, the press reports state that Roma president Franco Sensi could be willing to open negotiations over Samuel in a bid to free up funds for other market moves.
Sensi has outlined his desire to capture Chievo defender Nicola Legrottaglie as well as either Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Adriano, and thus a é¼20 million move for Argentine international Samuel could be in the offing.
Meanwhile, Real full back Michel Salgado has continued to be linked with Serie A giants Milan.
The Spanish international has been in outstanding form for 'los meringues' in recent weeks which has alerted the Giuseppe Meazza outfit.
Real would though be loathed to let the former Celta Vigo star leave, and are said to be planning to offer the player a new four-year deal to remain at the Bernabeu.
