ROBERTO CARLOS has revealed that he has spoken with Brazilian team-mate Lucio about the prospect of joining him at Real Madrid next season.

The Champions League holders are making a habit of breaking the bank every summer, first for Luis Figo and then Zinedine Zidane, and the accomplished Bayer Leverkusen defender is now thought to be their main transfer target.

"I've spoken to Lucio about the possibility of joining Real," said Roberto Carlos.

"He told me that the two clubs had talked but he knew nothing more about the situation. But he is happy a side like Real are interested."

Real are reportedly prepared to offer the 23-year-old in the region of £2.8 million per annum to secure the services of Lucio with the transfer fee over the £20 million mark.

Roma are also said to be interested but the player's personal terms could prove beyond their means.
