Alex Fernandez had given Osasuna the lead in the 37th minute when he blasted in a superb free-kick that flew past Iker Casillas.
Real were gifted an early opportunity to get back into the match as with six minutes to go in the first period, they were given a penalty when Raul was adjudged to have been bowled over.
However, justice was seen to have been done when Luis Figo stepped up to take the spot-kick but blasted it wide.
Osasuna hassled and harried their more illustrious opponents and for long stretches, Vicente Del Bosque's side looked like they would not get back into the game.
Real had taken the opportunity to rest players as they faced the third bottom side and it almost backfired on them.
Raul eventually scored, but there was an element of good fortune to their goal - Raul chipping the ball into the goal, but was standing in an offside position when he received the ball, after it cannoned off a defender when Osasuna tried to clear.
Real are now 12 points clear of Deportivo La Coruna, who themselves are now only a point clear of Valencia.
Leeds' opponents in the Champions League beat Valladolid 1-0 on Saturday thanks to Juan Sanchez's goal mid-way through the second half.
