Marcelino: A disappointing run of results have left him under mounting pressure

Sky Bet

Marcelino has vowed to battle on after Sevilla's latest setback and not resign, but admits that he would have to accept the sack if it came.

The beleaguered coach saw his team go down 2-1 at home to struggling Villarreal on Sunday, increasing the pressure that already weighs heavily on his shoulders.

Marcelino is not about to walk away from a challenge, though, and has made it clear that he will have to be pushed out of the door if the club decide to try something different.

"If [the board] considered that then I would have to accept it. The results are what they are," Marcelino said after the weekend defeat.

"But I will not resign."

Sevilla have won just six of their opening 21 league matches to sit in mid-table, with the club unable to establish any kind of consistency.

Marcelino took charge at Sevilla last summer and understands that if results do not improve then the calls for him to go will grow ever louder.

"I could not consider it an injustice. The board have to look for solutions and I am the man responsible," he continued.

"They have always been with me and supported me."
