Marseille boss turns his attention towards Tremoulinas

Marseille boss Didier Deschamps has already begun his search for a replacement for Taye Taiwo. The Nigerian full-back has revealed that he intends to part company with the reigning French champions at the end of the season. The 25-year-old will leave Stade Velodrome after seven years of loyal service, during which time he has matured into a highly regarded defender. In some ways it is a surprise he has lasted as long as he has at Marseille, with speculation regarding his future never far away. The time has come to move on, though, and Deschamps accepts that a decision has been made. He is now preparing to enter the summer transfer market in an effort to find suitable replacement, with Bordeaux's Benoit Tremoulinas top of his wish list.

No surprise

"I am not surprised that he has announced his departure," Deschamps said on Taiwo's decision. "He did not tell me first, but I am not surprised. "He was unable to reach an agreement with the club on a new contract and I think he has already gone in his head. "I like him as a player and I have done my best to keep him at the club, but it looks like he will leave." On possible summer targets, Deschamps added: "It is a bit early to talk about replacements yet, but I do like Tremoulinas. "He is one of the best left-sided players in the league. He is back to his best after a difficult start to the season."
