Germany coach Joachim Low has praised his team's effort after two crucial World Cup wins this week.
A second half strike from Piotr Trochowski saw off a stubborn Wales side on Wednesday, while Russia were overcome 2-1 on Saturday.
Having now gone unbeaten through their opening four qualifying fixtures, Low believes his side are well on their way to booking a spot at South Africa 2010.
"We are very happy with the six points from the two games this week," Low told the German press.
"We are top of the group and that is a solid foundation upon which we can build next year.
"We expected the Welsh to defend in numbers, but we put a lot of effort in, especially in the second half. Our team showed that they are mentally very strong."
Trochowski also expressed his delight at scoring his first international goal at such a crucial time.
"I am ecstatic about my goal," the Hamburg man commented.
"I don't think I have ever taken more shots at goal as in the last few games and one of them had to go in eventually."
