French defender Julien Escude looks set to miss this summer's European Championship with a hip injury.

The centre-half suffered a recurrence of an old problem during Sevilla's 2-0 victory over Real Valladolid on Sunday.

He is due to return to France in the coming days to be examined by the French Football Federation's doctor Jean-Pierre Paclet, but the outlook does not look good.

"It's not the first problem of the pubis that the French central defender has suffered from this season and he has already been examined in his country," Sevilla said in a club statement.

France begin their Euro 2008 against Romania on 9th June, giving Escude just five weeks to shake off the problem.
