Sevilla joined Barcelona at the summit of La Liga when comfortably disposing of Atletico Madrid at the Sanchez Pizjuan.
Barca were beaten at Valencia earlier on Sunday and Sevilla did not need a second invitation as they ran out 3-1 winners over Atletico.
Fredi Kanoute proved to be the star turn, as the led the line superbly and weighed in with two goals.
Daniel Alves also found the target and not even the dismissal of Jose Marti and late consolation from Pablo Ibanez could take the gloss off a fine display.
Sevilla assumed control at an early stage and Kanoute sprang the offside trap on 15 minutes before slamming home from the edge of the box for his 17th goal of the season.
Alves has been a key performer for Sevilla this term and he added a fine second with a low drive into the corner from the edge of the box.
Sevilla's momentum was checked before the break as Marti was sent off for a hack at Sergio Aguerro, but it did not prevent Kanoute from adding a third on 73 minutes as he headed home a well worked corner routine.
Atletico won a penalty nine minutes from time and they reduced the arrears through Ibanez who was on hand to slot home after Andres Palop had pushed out Fernando Torres' spot-kick.
Palop ensured there was no grandstand finish as he made a fine save from Jose Jurado on 83 minutes, as Sevilla moved level on 46 points with Barca.
