Primera Liga leaders Sevilla have completed the signing of Russian striker Alexander Kerzhakov.

The Zenit St Petersburg star has signed a five-and-a-half year contract at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and arrives to strengthen Sevilla's options as they look to keep Barcelona and Real Madrid at arms' length.

Kerzhakov had fallen out of favour under new Zenit boss Dick Advocaat this season, and will now compete with Luis Fabiano and Fredi Kanoute for a starting role in La Liga.

Sevilla are reported to have paid ‚é¼5million (£3.4million) to secure the Russian international who has scored eight goals in 32 games for his country.

The 24-year-old had been linked with a move to England, but Zenit sporting director Konstantin Sarsania has confirmed that Kerzhakov will be heading for warmer climes in Spain.

The deal also incorporates a long-term partnership between the two clubs worth ‚é¼15million (£10.1million).

"I think this is one of the biggest deals in Russia's soccer history," Sarsania told Reuters.

"It includes many facets of soccer business. Kerzhakov's transfer is just one of them."
