Liga round-up

Sevilla thrashed Deportivo, while Real Madrid were thumped at home by Recreativo.

Sevilla put daylight between themselves and the chasing pack with a win over Deportivo La Coruna, while Real Madrid were thumped at home by Recreativo De Huelva.

Sevilla have been in excellent form all season and they heaped more misery on struggling Depor.

Former Tottenham man Fredi Kanoute scored twice, while Luis Fabiano and Daniel Alves helped themselves to goals as Depor were cut to shreds.

Real could have moved second, but they slipped up at home to Recreativo.

Florent Sinama-Pongolle boosted his profile when brushing aside the challenge of World Footballer of the Year Fabio Cannavaro to open the scoring on 35 minutes.

Uche doubled the lead on 52 minutes and the points were wrapped up when Emilio Viqueira added a fine third in injury-time.

Marcus Assuncao's penalty helped struggling Real Betis move to within two points of safety in La Liga, as they got the better of basement boys Gimnastic de Tarragona.

Real Sociedad grabbed their first win of the season at the weekend and they built on that result by taking a point from their trip to Celta Vigo.

Raul Tamudo's late goal was enough for Espanyol to claim three points from their trip to Getafe.

Second-half goals from Ruben and Gonzalo Colsa ensured Racing Santander took three points from their home game with Villarreal, as the visitors could muster only a late goal from Garcia Marcos.

Osasuna flexed their muscles in the second half as goals by Cesar Cruchaga and Roberto Soldado lifted them to a 2-1 victory over Levante who had Laurent Robert sent off.
