Valencia kept the pressure on leaders Barcelona with a narrow 1-0 victory over Osasuna.
Valencia lost their first league game of the season to Celta Vigo last week, but returned to winning ways courtesy of David Villa's strike on 16 minutes.
Sevilla also kept pace with the leading pack with a 2-1 victory over struggling Gimnastic de Tarragona.
Fredi Kanoute (pictured) did the damage, slamming home after 21 and 26 minutes to set Sevilla on their way to three points. David Cuellar pulled one back for Gimnastic (67) but they could not force an equaliser.
Real Sociedad remain rooted to the foot of the table but did at least hold Real Mallorca to a 0-0 draw to pick up only their second point of the season.
Celta Vigo climbed into the top half with a 1-0 victory at Athletic Bilbao, Fernando Baiano grabbing the goal.
Getafe beat Recreativo de Huelva 2-1 to build on their good recent form.
Sergio Pachon (42) and Manuel del Moral (71) found the target for Getafe either side of Florent Sinama-Pongolle's strike (54).
Espanyol and Racing Santander shared four goals at the Estadio Olimpico de Montjuic.
Raul Tamudo (46) equalised for Espanyol after Pedro Munitis's strike (26), and had to level for a second time (90) after Francisco Chica's own goal had restored Racing's lead.
