Struggling Malaga gained a much-needed win after seeing off Andalusian rivals Sevilla by a single goal.
Substitute Paulo Wanchope will try to claim the goal which arrived on 66 minutes after some poor goalkeeping by Esteban.
The Sevilla custodian failed to catch the ball under pressure from the Costa Rican hit-man, and the former Manchester City star was subsequently on hand to bundle home although the final touch appeared to come from covering defender Aitor Ocio.
In truth it was a disappointing affair with few chances, but that won't matter to Malaga or caretaker boss Antonio Tapia after the club gained just their second win in 13 league outings.
The win takes the Costa del Sol outfit to within just one point of Racing Santander in 17th, although they are still in the relegation zone.
Ten-man Getafe staged a brave fightback to take a point from their local derby with Atletico Madrid.
Atletico started brightly and wasted three good early chances, the best of them falling to Salva who could not direct his header from Ariel Ibagaza's inviting cross on target.
The visitors did hit the front on 35 minutes; after Fernando Torres and Salva had both been denied, Jorge slotted home past Javier Sanchez Broto.
Getafe's cause was not helped on the stroke of half-time when Ivan Pulido saw a second yellow card after a foul on Jesper Gronkjaer.
However, they shrugged off the numerical disadvantage and were much the better side in the second half, and deservedly earned a share of the spoils when Sergio Pachon rounded off a fine team move on 64 minutes.
