Racing Santander have signed Gerardo Torrado after the midfielder negotiated his release from Sevilla.

The Mexico international had slipped out of the first team picture at Sevilla and was due to be out of contract at the end of the season.

But the club and player have settled on a satisfactory deal to enable Torrado to sever his ties at the Sanchez Pizjuan.

Torrado, who claims to have rejected a move to Portsmouth before the start of the season, had been linked with Barcelona.

Osasuna made him a firm offer, but the 25-year-old has opted to accept the deal put forward by Racing, while reports suggested Sevilla agreed to the cancellation of his deal on the proviso he did not sign for city rivals Real Betis.

He will stay with Racing until the end of the season, although he is unable to play for his new club until January.

Torrado will use his spell in Santander as an opportunity to put himself in the shop window for next summer, when he will become an attractive proposition as a free agent.
