Baptista has English suitor

Julio Baptista's agent has revealed an English club is chasing the Sevilla star.

Contract talks between Sevilla and Julio Baptista have reached an impasse due to the players demands.

The agent of the Brazilian midfielder also revealed that an English club had submitted an offer for the 23-year-old.

Sevilla are keen to tie Baptista to a new deal as reward for his impressive displays since signing from Sao Paulo last summer.

'The Beast', as he has become known, finished as the club's top scorer last season with an impressive 19 goals and has carried on that form this term having already notched five more.

His displays have attracted the interest from clubs in Spain and beyond, and Barcelona attempted to take him to Camp Nou during the summer.

Sevilla are determined to keep hold of him but can not meet his current demands.

Baptista is reported to be asking for ‚é¼1.2 million per season, and feels it is a figure that his performances have merited.

"That is what I am asking because I give everything when I am on the field," he stated.

"The differences (between what he is demanding and what Sevilla are prepared to pay) are great, but I want a quick solution.

"I just want to have peace to be able to play this season."

Sevilla have offered the player a six-year contract, but are not prepared to match his current demands.

Baptista's agent has warned the Primera outfit that several 'important' clubs are trailing his client, and revealed one of the suitors was from The Premiership.

Although he refused to give the identity of the English club, it is believed that Middlesbrough could be the side in question.
