The agent of Sevilla midfielder Julio Baptista has revealed that talks over a new contract with the club are set to commence.

Baptista, known as 'The Beast', made a massive impression in his first season in Spain last term, netting 19 goals and earning a call to the full Brazil squad.

His performances caught the eye of Barcelona who tried to snare him from Sevilla during the summer.

Barca ultimately refused to meet the asking-price of their Primera rival, and are now keen to tie Baptista to an improved deal.

The 22-year-old is currently under contract at Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan until June 30, 2008 and his release clause stands at £25 million.

However, the player's agent Herminio Menendez has revealed talks over an improved deal will start in around a week.

"In a week it will be possible," he stated. "Everything is calm and there are no problems, and if Sevilla are winning then all the better.

"Everything should be finalised in the first two weeks of November, but at this stage we haven't yet spoken to (Sevilla president, Jose Maria) del Nido."
