Sevilla are on the verge of completing a surprise swoop for Real Madrid youngster Jordi Lopez.

It had seemed on Thursday that Osasuna were poised to agree a deal for the midfielder who caused a something of a stir a couple of seasons ago by leaving Barcelona to join Real.

However, Sevilla - who have been following Lopez for some time - appear to have been spurred into action by Osasuna's interest.

The Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan outfit were thought to be concentrating their efforts into securing Celta Vigo forward Jesuli (pictured), but director of sport Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo 'Monchi' has reached agreement with Lopez.

The player himself admitted he was desperate for first-team action and was excited by the prospect of a move to Sevilla.

"I am very happy to play in the Primera and am very excited to belong to a team like Sevilla," he told Marca.

Lopez will become the club's fifth signing of the close season following the arrivals of Ariza Makukula, Carlos Aranda, Renato and Fernando Sales, but it is understood their pursuit of Jesuli will continue.
