Uruguayan coach Juan Ramon Carrasco has excluded five European based players from his squad, because their clubs will not allow them to join up early enough to participate in preparation.

Carrasco has told Gonzalo de los Santos and Ruben Olivera of Atletico Madrid, Sevilla's Dario Silva and Real Betis duo Alejandro Lembo and Washington Tais that he will not consider them for the World Cup qualifier against Venezuela.

The players' Spanish clubs would not release the players early enough to appease the coach.

"[The quintet] have been excluded from the national team for the next match because their clubs will not allow them to travel to Uruguay early enough to do the necessary work with the team," read a statement from the AUF.
