Sevilla have confirmed that they are to sign Brazilian defender Daniel Alves on a permanent basis when his loan spell at the club expires.

The 20-year-old wing back has been a revelation this term after joining the Primera outfit on an 18-month loan deal last January.

The South American starlet was rumoured to be attracting admiring glances from Real Madrid, against whom he produced a particularly impressive display in a 4-1 win last November, but Sevilla insist he will now be extending his stay at Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan.

Club president Jose Maria del Nido has stated he will take up an option to buy the player for $1.4 million (£750,000) from Brazilian outfit Bahia, and claimed there will be definitive news 'shortly'.

Meanwhile, Del Nido has also expressed his happiness at the performance of Joaquin Caparros' troops this term, and believes the team is on course to establish themselves amongst the biggest in Spain.

"The team has responded to everything we planned for," declared the Sevilla supremo.

"We are on a good run of results and I hope that the team keeps growing and progressing."
