ATLETICO MADRID remain unbeaten but, more importantly, registered their first win back in the top flight with a 4-0 rout of pointless Mallorca.

The Madrid side have started the campaign with two draws, but got their season underway with an impressive win at the Balearic Island club.

Fernando Torres set them on their way with the opener from the spot on eight minutes, and Fernando Correa gave them a cushion shortly before the interval.

Torres notched his second on 54 minutes and the scoring was completed by Jorge just after the hour.

The most entertaining game of the day was played in San Sebastian, where Real Sociedad played out a 3-3 draw with Real Betis.

Betis are one of the most exciting teams in Spain and raced into a two-goal lead thanks to a brace from Jesus Capi.

The youngster latched onto an Alfonso flick-on to loft the ball over Sander Westerveld for an excellent opener.

The second goal was simply breathtaking, as Marcos Assuncao sent a raking 50-yard ball into the path of Joaquin, who sent in a first-time cross into the path of Capi who slammed home.

Sociedad were given a lifeline when David Rivas headed into his own net on 29 minutes, but the defender atoned for his error shortly afterwards with a goal-line clearance from Darko Kovacevic.

The giant striker got himself on the scoresheet with a towering header on 57 minutes, but Betis showed spirit and Alfonso lashed them back in front.

Kovacevic had the last word, though, showing why he is a fearsome forward figure with a fantastic header from a Javi de Pedro cross.

Joseba Llorente thought he had stole the points in the last-minute, but saw his effort superbly saved by Betis keeper Toni Prats.

Valencia lost their perfect record after being held to a 2-2 draw at Malaga.

The champions will be thankful for the point, as they were two down at the break to goals from Manu and Mikel Roteta.

Valencia came out with purpose after the break and Mista reduced the arrears on 47 minutes.

It looked like Malaga would hold on, but Miguel Angel Angulo netted a leveller in injury-time.

Celta Vigo moved top of the table with a professional 3-0 win over Recreativo Huelva.

Celta had to wait until a minute before the break to open the scoring through Alexander Mostovoi.

The Russian netted his second on 70 minutes, with Benni McCarthy putting a gloss on the result with the third in injury-time.

Rayo Vallecano registered their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Racing Santander.

Julio Alvarez netted the first on 18 minutes, at a time when Racing had just been reduced to 10 men by the dismissal of Erwin Lemmens.

Pedro Munitis hauled Racing level, but Alvarez went on to score twice in the second-half to secure his hat-trick.

Alaves battled to a 1-0 win at Villarreal, with Ivan Alonso grabbing the only goal of the game ten minutes before the break.

Sevilla were denied a win over Athletic Bilbao by a late Joseba Etxeberria goal, after Jose Reyes had given them a first-half lead.
