Barcelona midfielder Xavi set to announce Nou Camp exit

Barcelona legend Xavi is set to announce his decision to leave the Camp Nou for Qatari side Al Sadd on Thursday, reports Spanish newspaper AS.

Xavi, who has spent his entire career at Barcelona, will hold a press conference on Thursday and reveal his intention to end his lengthy association with the Spanish champions.

The 35-year-old, who needs to win just one more trophy to become Barcelona’s most decorated player, has reportedly penned a three-year deal with Al Sadd, with the option of a further year, that is worth €10m a season.

Xavi’s imminent departure for the Qatari side has been confirmed by his father Joaquin Hernandez, who told COPE radio station the midfielder had decided "the moment has come to say goodbye."

He also revealed that his son's deal at Al Sadd would allow him to train as a coach as well as continue his playing career.

"Xavi is really excited about the offer from Qatar," he said. "But it will be strange not to see him in a Barcelona shirt anymore.

"He is lucky to have received a really impressive offer where he can continue playing football, train as a future coach and also rest a little."
