Schalke stand firm on Zambrano price for St Pauli

Schalke defender Christian Fuchs is unaware of any interest in his services from defending European champions Barcelona. The left-back has been linked with a summer move to Camp Nou by some Catalan media outlets. But 25-year-old Austria international Fuchs is committed to Schalke and respects his contract, which runs until the summer of 2015. He told Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper of the link to Barcelona: "It is somehow incredible. But there is no truth in it. "I am with Schalke. I am under contract."

Quality

Fuchs' agent is also in the dark about the rumoured interest from Barcelona, but does think the story is a positive reflection of his client's ability. Bohm told Austria-based Kurier newspaper: "I have not heard anything about it. And I cannot really imagine this. "Anyway, it is an indication of his quality that Christian's name has been mentioned by some newspapers as a potential transfer target of Barcelona." Meanwhile, Schalke general manager Horst Heldt insists German second-tier outfit St Pauli will not be able to sign on-loan defender Carlos Augusto Zambrano on a permanent basis unless they meet their asking price. Heldt told Recklinghauser Zeitung newspaper: "Carlos Zambrano is under contract with us. He is actually on loan at St Pauli. "The club has the option to buy him at the end of the loan arrangement. If they do not pay the agreed fee, he will return to our club. It is as simple as that."
