Catalan giants confident coach will pen new contract

Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu is confident Pep Guardiola will agree to prolong his association with the club. The highly-rated coach has always refused to pen long-term deals, preferring not to put himself in a position where he could get complacent. While his contractual situation helps to keep him on his toes, it does lead to endless rounds of speculation regarding his future. It has once again been suggested that this could be Guardiola's final season at Camp Nou, with it time for him and the club to head their separate ways. Barca, though, are adamant that they have the right man at the helm and Bartomeu is convinced that an agreement which suits all parties can be reached. "We want him to stay here for many more years," he told Sport.

History

"He is the best coach in the world and he has not stopped making history since he arrived. "Personally, I think that Guardiola's story with Barca is not yet over." Barca have slipped 10 points adrift of arch-rivals Real Madrid in this season's Primera Liga title race, but Bartomeu claims there will be no change in approach from the Catalan giants. "This team continues to bring young players through," he said. "That is our philosophy for success and that is the way we will continue to work. "Our supporters enjoy watching us play and that is the most important thing."
