Barcelona forward Pedro faces three weeks on the sidelines after tearing a hamstring against Mallorca on Sunday.
Barca were held to a 1-1 draw at home in the Primera Division to leave them trailing leaders Valencia by three points, and Pedro was taken off late on with the injury.
Subsequent tests have revealed the extent of the 23-year-old's problem, and the Spain international will now miss some important games for both club and country.
Pedro will be out of action for the UEFA Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen on 20th October and has also pulled out of the Spain squad.
The World Cup winners take on Lithuania on Friday and Scotland next Tuesday but he will play no part in the Euro 2012 qualifiers.
