The Romanian star had looked on course for Real Madrid after they agreed terms with Roma.
However, he failed to agree personal terms and he has now revealed that he will not be signing for Real or rivals Barcelona - who had also shown an interest.
The door is now left open for Internazionale to land Chivu, although he could stay at Roma and see out his current contract.
"Either I go to Inter or I stay at Roma," confirmed Chivu.
His agent Giovanni Becali added more details to the current situation.
"Me and Cristian, we have spoken with Roma's sporting director Daniele Prade," Becali told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Roma know that Chivu doesn't want to talk again with Barcelona or Real Madrid.
"Should Roma find an agreement with Inter, it would be ok, otherwise he will stay with Giallorossi and he waits his contract's expiry."
