Sociedad eye Ezquerro raid

Real Sociedad are lining up a bid to land Santiago Ezquerro from Barcelona.

Real Sociedad are lining up a bid to rescue Santiago Ezquerro from his plight at Barcelona during the winter transfer window according to coach Miguel Angel Lotina.

The former Athletic Bilbao forward moved to Camp Nou at the beginning of last season, but has seen little first-team action as the club retained the title and won the UEFA Champions League.

After taking over at the Anoeta two weeks ago, Lotina is planning his restructuring of la Real's squad and is keen on recruiting Ezquerro to bolster the attack.

"It is clear that I am interested in him," the Real Sociedad coach said. "If he said yes, then I would drive down there now and pick him up in my car."

Ezquerro has suffered this season with a thigh injury, but was on target in midweek as Barca cruised to victory against Badalona in the cup.

Despite his lack of opportunities, the 29-year-old is no hurry to leave the Catalan giants and has claimed that he will only leave if it is clear he is no longer wanted.

"My plan is to stay here," Ezquerro told RAC Radio. "It was always my dream to play for this club and I hope I can stay in the coach's plans.

"If the club ever says to me that they no longer need me, then we shall have to see what happens."
