Barcelona representatives are to run the rule over two of Boca Juniors' star turns.

The Liga giants are in Buenos Aires to negotiate a possible link up with Arsenal de Sarandi, and will use the opportunity to view Boca pair Fernando Gago and Rodrigo Palacio in action against fierce rivals River Plate on Sunday.

Striker Palacio was a member of Jose Pekerman's Argentina World Cup squad, while midfielder Gago is a prodigious midfield talent, who has also caught the eye of Real Madrid.

Barca president Joan Laporta has made the trip, and club secretary Txiki Begiristain revealed River's invitation.

"We have been invited by the officials of River Plate to watch the derby match against Boca so we will be able to see Gago and Palacio in action - two players that we are certainly interested in," said Begiristain.

"As the president of Boca Juniors will also be there, we have arranged a meeting."

Barcelona could also be eyeing a third Argentine, with reports suggesting the club have contacted Independiente regarding goalkeeping prospect Oscar Ustari.
