Benfica are not interested in taking Barcelona striker Maxi Lopez on loan in the January transfer window.

The Portuguese champions are reportedly looking for a new striker at Estadio da Luz, but the former River Plate hit-man is not a target.

The Argentine forward has only played 14 minutes for the Catalan outfit this season and has been linked with a move away from Camp Nou for the second half of the campaign.

Deportivo La Coruna were also linked with the 21-year-old, but they have denied having any interest in the South American goalscorer.

Spanish clubs Cadiz, Real Betis and Real Sociedad have been mentioned with making a move for Lopez in the New Year, despite the striker declaring his intention to stay and fight for his place at Barca.

Barca boss Frank Rijkaard and technical director Txiki Begiristain are keen to find Lopez a club that can offer him regular first team football for the remainder of the season.
