A number of Primera clubs have expressed an interest in signing Barcelona striker Maxi Lopez on loan, although Deportivo La Coruna insist they are not in the race for his signature.

Lopez, 21, joined Barca during last season's January transfer window but has failed to make much of an impact.

The Argentine managed only one goal following his move last term and has made only one substitute appearance this time around.

With Samuel Eto'o, Henrik Larsson and Santiago Ezquerro all now ahead of him in boss Frank Rijkaard's pecking order, Barca are now ready to loan the player out when the transfer window reopens.

A host of clubs are already studying the possibility of signing the former Independiente hit-man with Real Betis, Real Sociedad and newly-promoted Cadiz amongst the first to have registered an interest.

However, one side who have ruled themselves out of the running are Depor who insist reports linking them with the player are mere mischief-making.

"It's an invention, something very strange," stated Depor president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro.

"Deportivo have not spoken to the player, nor his agent, nor Barcelona.

"It's a fictitious story."
